On August 22, 2016, Abacus School of Austin begins the 2016-17 School Year. As with any transition time, there is excitement and some anxiety. In an effort to reduce the worry, the front office and management teams create and distribute transition packets for parents. These packets are meant to answer questions and concerns about the class the child is entering.
In our Infant/Toddler Area, transitions are pretty predictable. Infants transition to Young Toddler and Young Toddlers to Toddlers and Young Preschool. On August 10, 2016, the Infant/Toddler Teachers have invited parents to a “Meet and Greet” event so that they can not only meet the teachers, they can also ask questions and voice concerns.
Once children advance to preschool, transitions are a bit different. This school year, we will have four (4) Preschool Classrooms. The children in this group are three-years old by September 1. We will have three (3) Pre-K Classrooms. The children in this group are four-years old by September 1. Our “Meet and Greet” event for this group is scheduled for August 30, 2016.
In Preschool and Pre-K, children are grouped randomly. All the classrooms are unique based on teaching styles and the personality of the individual children. We begin working on classroom rosters for preschool in mid-July with the anticipation that all children are placed by mid-August. At that point, we can begin to inform parents of their child’s class. Rosters cannot be changed as our classrooms are at capacity and we need to maintain our ratios.
We look forward to a year of fun and excitement for the learning process!
